Phillip currently is Pastor of La Plaza United Methodist Church in downtown Los Angeles. He graduate from Boston University School of Theology, where he studied how God’s love can extend communities can work to serve the kingdom of God in a local church that many have written off as dead.

Working with reputable churches such as Open Space Inland Empire in Upland, CA, All Saints Church in Pasadena, CA, and Connexion Church in Sommerville, MA, Phillip is experienced working with both small and large faith communities. Working mainly with young adult com-munities, Phillip has helped create and sustain viable ministries that call new people towards a renewed church. By doing this work, Phillip helps churches find the bridge between how the old and the new can live side by side in the local church.

Phillip is a cat lover and avid tennis player.

Thank you for visiting us! As you explore La Plaza United Methodist Church website, we pray and hope your life is blessed and that joy may find you.

We are by no means perfect, but we intentionally put emphasis on inclusiveness by resting in the Creator’s love and grace. We are growing and we are learning as we grow… your voice and presence could open the door for many others like you.

We believe that worshiping, working, serving and having fellowship and vital conversations with the community we will grow together in our spiritual journeys, irrelevant of where each one of us is right now.  Therefore, wherever you are on your life journey, have the certainty that You are Wanted and Loved. It is for this, that I want you to know, that we would love to accompany you along your spiritual path, and that you accompany us in ours.

We are committed to social justice and we look for opportunities to partner with people for whom this is a relevant matter. We are committed to social justice and we look for opportunities to partner with people for whom this is a relevant matter. Does this motivates you?

It would be great if we could start a dialogue to participate together in being a creative part of the solution -even if a small one- to some of the diverse needs in our communities. As in for example, how could arts help to build our communities and to promote transformation?

We would love to hear from you!

May peace be in your paths…

– Pastor Phillip Valdes
